Monday, June 7, 2010, 9am-5pm, Hearst Museum, UC Berkeley
Dear Shellmound Friends,
Please come and join Jun San on Monday June 7th as she drums and prays for the return of the ancestors.
She will be in front of the Hearst Museum at UC Berkeley from 9am to 5pm. If you have time, please come out and support her. For two years, Jun San has fasted in front of the Hearst Museum, chanting and praying for the return of the ancestors that are being stored at the museum.
On May 14th of this year a piece of the NAGPRA law that was to return remains, funerary objects and other property to tribes now also must begin to repatriate "culturally unidentifiable remains." These are for non-federally recognized tribes. A week ago we celebrated the work that everyone has been doing in order to make this a reality. We continue to work on protecting and saving sacred sites, and this is a wonderful way of continuing to be the voices of the ancestors. Jun San looks forward to seeing many of you.
